The Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek is one of Nepal’s most rewarding Himalayan journeys, combining the beautiful Langtang Valley with the sacred alpine lakes of Gosaikunda. The trail passes through rhododendron, bamboo, pine, and alpine landscapes, traditional Tamang settlements, Buddhist monasteries, yak pastures, and spectacular mountain scenery. After exploring Kyanjin Gompa and allowing time for acclimatization, the route continues toward Gosaikunda and crosses the challenging Laurebina La Pass before descending through Ghopte, Kutumsang, Chisapani, and Sundarijal.

Trek Day 3

Day 3

Drive Syabrubesi—1,550 M (6–8 hours)

After an early breakfast, drive north from Kathmandu toward Syabrubesi, the principal gateway to the Langtang Valley. The scenic journey follows the Trishuli River and passes through hills, terraced farmland, small settlements, and mountain landscapes. Road conditions can vary, so the journey may take longer during periods of rain or road maintenance. Arrive in Syabrubesi and settle into your teahouse. Take a short walk around the village and prepare for the trek. Overnight at a teahouse.
Trek Day 4

Day 4

Trek to Lama Hotel 2,380 M (6 hours)

Your first trekking day follows the Langtang Khola through lush forests of oak, rhododendron, bamboo, and pine. The trail crosses suspension bridges and passes waterfalls and peaceful riverside sections. The route includes several gradual ascents and descents before reaching the Lama Hotel area. The forest is rich in birdlife, and lucky trekkers may even encounter Himalayan wildlife. Enjoy the peaceful mountain environment before settling into your teahouse. Overnight at Lama Hotel.
Trek Day 5

Day 5

Trek to Langtang village — 3,430 m (5–6 hours)

The trail continues through dense woodland before gradually opening into the wider Langtang Valley. Along the way, pass through settlements such as Ghoda Tabela and enjoy increasingly impressive views of the surrounding peaks. The valley becomes broader as you approach traditional Tamang villages and yak pastures. Continue toward Langtang Village, an important settlement rebuilt following the 2015 earthquake. The village offers a fascinating combination of Himalayan scenery, Buddhist traditions, and local mountain culture. Overnight at a teahouse.
Trek Day 6

Day 6

Trek to Kyanjin Gompa—3,870 m (3–4 hours)

After breakfast, continue gradually uphill through Mundu and other small settlements toward Kyanjin Gompa. The landscape becomes increasingly alpine, with spectacular views of Langtang Lirung and surrounding peaks. Kyanjin Gompa is the final major settlement in the upper Langtang Valley and an excellent base for exploring the surrounding mountains. After checking into your teahouse, take a gentle walk around the village and visit the monastery and nearby yak-cheese production area if open. Overnight at a teahouse.
Trek Day 7

Day 7

Acclimatization Day at Kyanjin Gompa — 3,870 m

Today is an important acclimatization day before continuing toward the high Gosaikunda region. Rather than remaining completely inactive, take a gradual hike around Kyanjin Gompa. Depending on weather, fitness, and the guide’s recommendation, you may hike toward Kyanjin Ri or explore nearby viewpoints. Keep the pace slow, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid overexertion. This extra day significantly improves the comfort and safety of the itinerary before the upcoming high-altitude sections. Overnight at a teahouse.
Trek Day 8

Day 8

Trek Back to Lama Hotel—2,380 m (5–6 hours)

After breakfast, retrace the trail down the Langtang Valley. The descent is considerably easier on the lungs, allowing you to enjoy the forests, waterfalls, river views, and mountain scenery from a different perspective. Pass through Langtang Village, Ghoda Tabela, and forested sections before reaching Lama Hotel. Although the trail is mostly downhill, trekking poles can be useful on uneven sections. Enjoy a relaxed evening at the teahouse and prepare for the route toward Gosaikunda. Overnight at Lama Hotel.
Trek Day 9

Day 9

Trek to Thulo Syabru—2,230 m (5–6 hours)

Today the trail leaves the main Langtang Valley route and heads toward Thulo Syabru. After crossing the river, the path climbs through forests and traditional mountain landscapes before reaching the attractive Tamang village of Thulo Syabru. The village occupies a hillside with impressive views toward the Langtang range and surrounding valleys. This section provides another opportunity to experience local culture and traditional Himalayan hospitality. Enjoy the evening exploring the village and resting before the higher trail ahead. Overnight at a teahouse.
Trek Day 10

Day 10

Trek to Shin Gompa—3,330 m (5–6 hours)

The trail climbs steadily from Thulo Syabru through beautiful pine, hemlock, and rhododendron forests toward Shin Gompa, also known as Sing Gompa. The gradual ascent provides an excellent opportunity to continue acclimatizing before reaching Gosaikunda. Shin Gompa is known for its Buddhist monastery and traditional yak-cheese production. On clear days, the surrounding ridges offer beautiful mountain views. Take the afternoon slowly, stay hydrated, and prepare for tomorrow’s significant altitude gain. Overnight at a teahouse.
Trek Day 11

Day 11

Trek to Gosaikunda—4,380 m (6–7 hours)

Today is one of the most spectacular and demanding days of the trek. The trail climbs steadily through alpine terrain toward Laurebina Yak and the sacred Gosaikunda basin. As the vegetation becomes thinner, expansive Himalayan views open across the surrounding mountains. Eventually, the sacred Gosaikunda Lake comes into view, surrounded by rugged ridges and several smaller alpine lakes. Gosaikunda is revered by both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. Walk slowly, monitor your health, and allow your body to adjust to the altitude. Overnight at a teahouse.
Trek Day 12

Day 12

Gosaikunda to Ghopte via Laurebina La—3,420 m (7–8 hours)

Start early for the highest and most challenging section of the trek. The trail climbs beyond the Gosaikunda basin toward Laurebina La, reaching approximately 4,610 meters. The route can be rocky, icy, or snow-covered depending on the season, so careful footing is essential. After crossing the pass, descend gradually through rugged alpine terrain and then into forested landscapes toward Ghopte. This long day requires good fitness and favorable weather conditions. Overnight at a teahouse in Ghopte.
Trek Day 13

Day 13

Trek to Kutumsang—2,470 m (6–7 hours)

From Ghopte, the trail continues through forests and rolling hills toward Tharepati before gradually descending into the Helambu region. The landscape changes dramatically from high alpine terrain to greener forests, villages, cultivated slopes, and terraced farmland. Continue toward Kutumsang, a traditional settlement surrounded by beautiful hills and mountain scenery. This section is considerably lower than Gosaikunda, making it a welcome recovery day after crossing Laurebina La. Enjoy the quieter atmosphere of the Helambu trail. Overnight at a teahouse.
Trek Day 14

Day 14

Trek to Chisapani—2,165 m (6–7 hours)

Continue through the scenic Helambu hills, following forest trails and passing traditional settlements and terraced farmland. The trail includes several gentle climbs and descents before reaching the popular hilltop settlement of Chisapani. On clear days, Chisapani offers attractive sunrise and sunset views across the Himalayan ranges. The changing landscape provides a pleasant contrast to the rugged high-altitude sections of the trek. After arrival, relax at the teahouse and enjoy your final evening on the trail. Overnight at a teahouse.
Trek Day 15

Day 15

Trek to Sundarijal and Drive to Kathmandu—1,460 m (4–5 hours)

Enjoy your final morning walk through forested trails toward Sundarijal, passing through Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park landscapes. The route gradually descends toward the Kathmandu Valley, with streams, woodland, and occasional views of surrounding hills. At Sundarijal, meet your vehicle and drive back to Kathmandu. After checking into your hotel, enjoy a well-earned shower and free time. In the evening, you may join a farewell dinner celebrating the successful completion of your Langtang and Gosaikunda adventure. Overnight at a hotel.

Base Price (per person): $1,090.00

Availability: Year-Round

Total (1 Person): $1,090.00

HEALTH: No special vaccination is universally required for entering Nepal, but travelers should consult a qualified doctor or travel-health professional before departure, particularly regarding routine vaccinations and individual medical needs. Medical facilities become increasingly limited as the trail gains altitude. Bring personal medications in their original packaging and carry enough for the entire trip, plus a small reserve. If you use prescription glasses or contact lenses, carrying a spare pair of glasses is strongly recommended.

MOUNTAIN SICKNESS: Altitude sickness can affect anyone, regardless of age or fitness. Symptoms may include headache, nausea, dizziness, unusual fatigue, poor sleep, loss of appetite, and shortness of breath. The best prevention is gradual ascent, adequate hydration, sensible pacing, and avoiding alcohol or unnecessary exertion at altitude. Never continue ascending when significant symptoms are developing. If symptoms worsen, inform your guide immediately and descend when advised. The itinerary includes an acclimatization day at Kyanjin Gompa before the high-altitude Gosaikunda section.

WEATHER: Mountain weather can change rapidly. The lower Langtang Valley may be relatively warm during the day, while temperatures at Kyanjin Gompa and Gosaikunda can become very cold, especially at night. Snow, rain, strong winds, fog, and sudden temperature changes are possible. The best trekking periods are generally spring and autumn. Nepal Tourism Board identifies March–May and October–November as the best periods for Langtang, while June–September is the monsoon season and December–February can bring significant snow at higher elevations.

PACKING: Pack for changing temperatures and several different environments. Essential items include moisture-wicking base layers, warm fleece or down jacket, waterproof outer shell, trekking trousers, thermal underwear, warm hat, gloves, sun hat, sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen, sturdy waterproof trekking boots, comfortable camp footwear, sleeping bag suitable for cold conditions, water bottles or hydration system, headlamp, personal medication, toiletries, and basic first-aid supplies.

Avoid overpacking. Teahouse accommodation is available throughout the established route, but facilities become increasingly basic at higher elevations. A power bank is useful because charging facilities may be limited or require additional payment.

THINGS TO CARRY: Your main duffel bag carried by a porter should normally remain within the weight limit agreed with your trekking agency, while your daypack should contain only essential items. Carry water, rain protection, warm layers, sunscreen, sunglasses, snacks, personal medication, documents, phone/camera, power bank, tissues, and other necessities needed during the day.

PERMITS AND DOCUMENTS: The Langtang and Gosaikunda routes require appropriate trekking documentation. Nepal Tourism Board currently lists both Langtang Trek and Langtang Gosaikund Trek among routes requiring a licensed guide and agency-issued TIMS Card.

A Langtang National Park entry permit is also required. The current Nepal Tourism Board fee for foreign visitors is NPR 3,000 per person, while the listed SAARC rate is NPR 1,500. Fees can change, so the applicable amount should be reconfirmed before departure.

Carry your passport, travel-insurance details, emergency contacts, permit information, and copies of important documents.

EMERGENCY AND YOUR SUPPORT TEAM: Your trekking guide should be trained in basic first aid, altitude awareness, and emergency procedures. The trekking team should carry a basic first-aid kit and communication facilities appropriate for the route. Every trekker should have comprehensive travel insurance that specifically covers trekking at the maximum altitude of the itinerary and emergency helicopter evacuation where medically necessary.

If a serious medical problem occurs, your guide and agency will coordinate appropriate evacuation and medical assistance. Always provide your trekking agency with a copy of your insurance policy and emergency contact details before departure.
