This 17-day pilgrimage follows the sacred spiritual journey of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) from the Kathmandu Valley into the heart of Tibet, connecting places deeply revered in the history and living tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

The journey begins in Kathmandu with visits to Boudhanath, Pharping’s Asura and Yangleshö Caves, Swayambhunath, and a Bon monastery, introducing the sacred landscape and traditions of the Himalayas. Pharping holds a particularly important place in the Vajrayana tradition, as the caves are traditionally associated with Guru Rinpoche’s profound meditation and attainment of Mahamudra.

From Kathmandu, the pilgrimage continues to Lhasa, where the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor immerse you in Tibet’s living Buddhist culture. The journey then reaches Samye, traditionally regarded as Tibet’s first Buddhist monastery and closely associated with the establishment of Buddhism in Tibet and Guru Rinpoche’s role in overcoming obstacles to the Dharma. Continuing westward, the route leads through Tirthapuri and Lake Manasarovar before reaching the sacred realm of Mount Kailash. Here, the three-day Kailash Kora becomes the spiritual culmination of the journey—a demanding pilgrimage through high mountain landscapes, prayer flags, monasteries, and sacred passes. More than a sightseeing tour, this is a journey of faith, devotion, Buddhist heritage, sacred geography, and personal reflection, bringing together the spiritual traditions of Nepal and Tibet while following the enduring legacy of Guru Rinpoche and the sacred power of Mount Kailash.

Trek Day 1

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350 m)– Short Break – Boudhanath Stupa

Welcome to Kathmandu, the spiritual gateway to the Himalayas. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, take a short break and relax after your flight. Later, visit Boudhanath Stupa, one of the most important centers of Tibetan Buddhist practice in Nepal. Walk around the great white stupa with pilgrims and devotees, observe the prayer wheels and prayer flags, and experience the peaceful atmosphere of the surrounding monasteries. As the first spiritual destination of the journey, Boudhanath provides a gentle introduction to the Buddhist pilgrimage ahead. Return to the hotel and rest. Overnight at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2

Pharping – Asura & Yangleshö Caves – Swayambhunath – Bon Monastery

Today is dedicated to the spiritual traditions of the Kathmandu Valley. After breakfast, drive south toward Pharping, one of the most important pilgrimage sites associated with Guru Rinpoche in Nepal. Begin with the Yangleshö Cave, traditionally associated with Guru Rinpoche's practice of Yangdak Heruka. Continue to the Asura Cave, also known as the Upper Cave of Yangleshö, where Tibetan Buddhist tradition associates Padmasambhava with Vajrakilaya practice and the attainment of the siddhi of Mahamudra. Spend time in the sacred surroundings for prayer, meditation or quiet reflection. Continue back toward Kathmandu and visit Swayambhunath Stupa, one of the valley's most ancient and revered Buddhist sites, dramatically situated on a hill overlooking Kathmandu. Later, visit a Bon monastery to learn about the ancient Tibetan religious tradition of Bon and its relationship with the wider religious history of the Himalayan region. Return to your hotel. Overnight at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu – Lhasa (3,650 m)

After breakfast, transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight to Lhasa. The flight crosses the magnificent Himalayan range before arriving at Lhasa Gonggar Airport. Meet your Tibetan representative and drive to your hotel. The remainder of the day is reserved for rest and acclimatization. Lhasa stands at approximately 3,650 meters, so avoid strenuous activity, walk slowly and drink plenty of fluids. Overnight at a hotel in Lhasa.

Lhasa – Potala Palace – Jokhang Temple – Barkhor

Today, explore the spiritual heart of Tibet. Visit the magnificent Potala Palace, one of the most recognizable monuments of Tibetan Buddhist civilization. Continue to Jokhang Temple, one of Tibet's most sacred pilgrimage destinations. Later, walk through the historic Barkhor area and observe pilgrims performing the traditional Kora around the Jokhang. Take the day at a comfortable pace to continue acclimatization. Overnight at a hotel in Lhasa.

Lhasa – Samye Monastery – Lhasa

Today, make a special pilgrimage to Samye Monastery, traditionally regarded as the first Buddhist monastery established in Tibet. Founded during the reign of King Trisong Detsen in the 8th century, Samye played an important role in the early institutional development of Buddhism in Tibet. Its distinctive mandala-like design represents the Buddhist universe. Samye is also deeply connected with the religious traditions surrounding Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) and the establishment of Buddhism in Tibet. Explore the monastery's main temple, chapels, courtyards and sacred surroundings. After the visit, return to Lhasa. Overnight at a hotel in Lhasa.

Lhasa – Shigatse (3,900 m)

After breakfast, drive southwest toward Shigatse, Tibet's second-largest city and an important center of Tibetan Buddhism. Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, traditionally associated with the Panchen Lamas. Explore the monastery's courtyards, chapels, religious artwork and traditional Tibetan architecture. Continue to your hotel for rest. Overnight at a hotel in Shigatse.

Shigatse – Saga (Approx. 4,600 m)

Continue westward across the immense Tibetan Plateau toward Saga. The journey passes through vast valleys, high mountain ranges, grasslands, nomadic settlements and high-altitude landscapes. This is a long driving day, so use the journey to rest and gradually adapt to the increasing elevation. Overnight at a hotel/guesthouse in Saga.

Saga – Lake Manasarovar (4,590 m)

Continue toward the sacred region of Mount Kailash. As the road crosses the Tibetan Plateau, dramatic mountains and high-altitude valleys gradually surround the journey. Eventually, the sacred Mount Kailash and the turquoise waters of Lake Manasarovar come into view. For pilgrims, reaching Manasarovar is one of the emotional and spiritual highlights of the entire journey. Spend the night near the sacred lake. Overnight at a guesthouse near Lake Manasarovar.

Lake Manasarovar – Chiu Monastery – Tirthapuri – Darchen Region

After breakfast, visit Chiu Monastery, dramatically positioned above Lake Manasarovar. Continue toward Tirthapuri, an important pilgrimage site traditionally associated with Guru Rinpoche. Explore the monastery, sacred springs, meditation caves and surrounding pilgrimage landscape. Tirthapuri provides another important connection with the Padmasambhava tradition before the journey proceeds toward Mount Kailash. Continue toward the Darchen region. Overnight at a hotel/guesthouse.

Darchen – Kailash Preparation & Darshan (4,570 m)

Today is dedicated to preparation for the Mount Kailash Kora. Enjoy views of the sacred mountain and receive a detailed briefing from your guide about the three-day pilgrimage. Prepare your daypack, check your clothing and equipment, organize personal supplies and arrange porter or horse services if required and locally available. The remainder of the day is for rest. An early night is recommended before beginning the Kora. Overnight at a hotel/guesthouse in Darchen.

Day 11

Kailash Kora Day 1 – Darchen – Tarboche – Dirapuk (4,900–5,000 m)

Today begins the sacred three-day Mount Kailash Kora. Drive from Darchen to Tarboche, the traditional starting point of the pilgrimage. Begin walking through the spectacular valley toward Dirapuk. The trail gradually follows the western side of Mount Kailash and provides magnificent views of the mountain's dramatic western and northern faces. The distance is manageable for experienced hikers, but the altitude makes the day demanding. Walk slowly and maintain a steady pace. Overnight at a basic guesthouse in Dirapuk.

Day 12

: Kailash Kora Day 2 – Dirapuk – Dolma La – Zuthulpuk (4,790 m)

This is the hardest day of the pilgrimage. Start early from Dirapuk and ascend toward Dolma La Pass at approximately 5,630 meters, the highest point of the journey. The ascent is steep and physically demanding because of the extreme altitude and thin air. After crossing the pass, descend carefully toward Gauri Kund and continue toward Zuthulpuk Valley. This day requires patience, determination and careful attention to altitude. Overnight at a basic guesthouse in Zuthulpuk.

Day 13

Kailash Kora Day 3 – Zuthulpuk – Darchen – Saga

Complete the final section of the Mount Kailash Kora. The trail gradually becomes easier as you approach the end of the pilgrimage route. Meet your vehicle and return to Darchen. After a short rest, continue eastward across the Tibetan Plateau toward Saga. Completing the Kora is a major physical and spiritual achievement. Overnight at a hotel/guesthouse in Saga.

Saga – Shigatse (3,900 m)

After breakfast, begin the return journey toward Shigatse. Travel through the immense Tibetan Plateau, passing highland lakes, mountain ranges, grazing animals and remote Tibetan settlements. The gradual descent provides some relief after the Kailash Kora. Upon reaching Shigatse, check into your hotel and rest. Overnight at a hotel in Shigatse.

Day 15

Shigatse – Lhasa (3,650 m)

After breakfast, drive back to Lhasa. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy free time. You may explore local markets, visit a monastery if time permits, purchase Tibetan handicrafts or simply rest. Use the evening to reflect on the spiritual journey from Pharping and Samye to Tirthapuri and Mount Kailash. Overnight at a hotel in Lhasa.

Day 16

Lhasa – Kathmandu

After breakfast, transfer to Lhasa Gonggar Airport for your return flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have free time for shopping, relaxation or a final visit to a nearby religious site. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner featuring traditional Nepali cuisine and cultural entertainment. Overnight at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Departure from Kathmandu

Your sacred Himalayan pilgrimage comes to an end today. After breakfast, enjoy your remaining free time until departure. Our representative will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport according to your flight schedule. Return home with memories of Boudhanath, Pharping, Guru Rinpoche, Swayambhunath, Bon tradition, Lhasa, Samye, Tirthapuri, Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash. Farewell and safe travels!
